Evening Reflections
The Evening Reflection is an excellent way to review where God was present and working in the midst of your day. Developing this practice helps us become more aware of the presence and work of God throughout our day. We then realize that our daily circumstances and encounters are moments when God is calling us to join Him in His mission.
- In what moments did I recognize and respond to God's presence today?
- In what moments was God present and at work and I failed to recognize it?
- How might I prepare myself to to recognize and respond to God tomorrow?
How to make the most of your Evening Reflections
Find a quiet time & place where you won’t fall asleep. If you’re not an evening person, you may want to pick a time earlier in the evening. If you’re night owl, later may work better. It’s best to sit up (rather than lie prone) because you’re less likely to fall asleep.
Review the different activities, encounters and circumstances of your day. Sometimes it’s easier to look back at your calendar so you don’t end up getting distracted. Ask yourself the three reflection questions (above).
Set aside time to discuss your reflections with others. Create a group of other Hope Center people to check in with regularly. As you share your reflections, take time to listen to one another. Maybe God will point something out though the reflection of another.
Write down reflections, notes, observations & prayers. Hope Center is providing journals and pens to help you keep track of the times when God is catching your attention. You may even see patterns develop.

About our Evening Reflections
Our Evening Reflections are simple adaptations of the daily Examen, a technique of prayerful reflection on the events of the day in order to detect God’s presence and discern his direction for us. These practices can help us see God’s hand at work in our whole experience. To this day, many Christian traditions utilize variations of daily reflections (or Examen) to help followers of Jesus to see the presence and work of the Holy Spirit in their daily lives.
